I bought this book and started to read it because I like to support West Australian authors and because it sounded like a good story. After I started to read the accounts of cruelty towards kangaroos and their joeys, I deleted it from my eReader and my eLibrary. I find this sort of thing deeply disturbing.
Hi Sue, I understand your strong reaction – the subject matter is extremely disturbing. One of the themes of Shallow Breath is people’s relationships with animals, from the joyous to the horrific. The cruelty depicted was as painful to write as it is to read. There are many wonderful animal charities such as Animals Australia who would love support from those such as yourself who feel so strongly about these topics.
I picked up this book while working in my cousin’s gift shop in Two Rocks, I started to read it (as I am a big supporter of locals) well, I couldn’t put it down and unfortunately for me, it was finished 24 hours later. Sara, Kindle is an absolutely smashing app. I love the way it has changed lives of millions of busy readers around the globe. You can take as many books you want to wherever you are going. It’s good to know that Shallow Breath is out on Kindle also.
