  • Happy Father’s Day to all the fab dads out there, especially my ‘super dad’ hubby who works so hard for me and our girls. ❤️
  • Much of August was taken up by planning an epic Harry Potter party for my 11 year old - we went all out as it’s possibly our kids party swansong. As mentioned in my latest post on Substack, I made howlers that looked great but were completely inedible, little cupcakes that they each bit into to reveal which house they were in, and a cake that was requested specifically to look like the one in the first HP movie, but which pained me as unless you get the reference it just looks like I can’t spell! (My older daughter also deserves a mention for hand-carving the wands for her sister and friends.)
  • One of the best things about being a homeschool mum is getting to go to all the author events during Children’s Book Week and watch these brilliant storytellers doing their thing! Loved seeing you @askastorytelling and @debfitzpatrick9 and thanks for the great sessions for our kids! (We’ll remember the selfie next time Deb!) 📚
  • Happy Friday folks! I’m head down finalising the next round of edits for When She Was Gone, hoping to get them back today so I can return to the next work in progress. No rest for the wicked here! Also just finished writing my new Substack post about the kiss that never happened in the new movie Twisters, and what we might take away from these kinds of bold creative choices. This one is for my paid community but you can always take a peek at my paid articles with a free trial, and there are now over 40 free articles about writing, books and creativity for my subscribers there too.   • Searched out my old Sweet Valley High books today. I owe an unknown debt to Francine Pascal, who died a few days ago aged 92. In middle school my best friend and I used to devour these books and then decided to write our own, featuring ourselves and our classmates, who for a short time would gather with us in the playground during breaks to listen to the latest instalment (not sure if they wanted to or if we coerced them, but anyway!). It was early inspiration to write that has lasted a lifetime. Thank you Francine! #sweetvalleyhigh #francinepascal
