Every week I check in with one of Australia’s favourite authors to bring you their latest news, and this week I’m delighted to welcome Rachael Johns, whose highly anticipated new novel The Other Bridget hit the shops this week!
Once upon a time (briefly) Rachael was an English teacher, then her dreams of becoming a novelist came true. Now she spends her days writing romance and women’s fiction in the Swan Valley (WA). Her book The Patterson Girls won the ABIA Award in 2016 for General Fiction and she has also won the RWAus RUBY Award twice. When she’s not writing, you’ll find Rachael reading, occasionally sewing, hanging with her adorable Sheepadoodle or listening to audiobooks while driving around her three teenage boys. The only TV show she watches is FARMER WANTS A WIFE and every year she says she’ll read more non-fiction but fails because there are too many good novels waiting to be devoured.
READING:Anybody Out There by Marian Keyes – it’s a reread as the sequel is out this year and I wanted to be ready!
WATCHING: Rom Coms – I’ve been watching one a month in the lead-up to the release of my first rom com novel, THE OTHER BRIDGET.
LISTENING: Love on Campus – it’s my fave podcast, talking about the romance genre.
THINKING ABOUT: Whether my middle son will ever get his license so that he can drive himself to his zillion soccer training sessions; what we’re going to have for dinner; how I can have a full wardrobe but nothing to wear on book tour; is the car really due for service again?; and of course, why we’re still having wars? And how petty all my other thoughts feel in comparison to the things people in war-torn countries are going through.
WORKING ON: I’ve just started THE WEDDING TRAP, another rom-com loosely linked to THE OTHER BRIDGET.
RACHAEL’S LATEST BOOK: THE OTHER BRIDGET is about a librarian named after the famous Bridget Jones, who feels she’s cursed in love because of her name. Her superpower is matching books to non-readers to turn them into book lovers. When she attempts to do this with her sexy local Barista and also her grumpy neighbour, everything starts going a little crazy for her.
