Aussie Author Month

I’m delighted to be a part of Aussie Author month. I’ll be writing a guest post for Reading Adventures next week, reflecting on my recent book tour. Meanwhile, I’m devoting the month to reading as many Aussie books as I can, both classics and new releases. I’ll report back at the end of the month, and let you know how I get on – my reading list is growing by the day!

Meanwhile you can follow Aussie Author month on Facebook or on Twitter using the hashtag #ausbooks. Aussie Author Month is raising funds for the Indigenous Literacy Project, which is dedicated to bridging the reading gap. Find out more on their website: www.indigenousliteracyfoundation.org.au

Happy Aussie reading!

I really enjoyed being interviewed by Aimee Burton last week, and you can check out our chat here. (Make sure you’ve clicked through to this story by clicking on the headline first in order to access the link).

Writers on Rafts – only one week left

The brilliant fundraising initiative for Queensland flood victims known as Writers on Rafts – the brainchild of Rebecca Sparrow and the Queensland Writers Centre – has only one week left. For just $5 a ticket you can enter a draw to win all sorts of writing and reading related prizes.

My books are up for grabs on there, as well as the opportunity to have feedback on the first 5000 words of your manuscript and a complete synopsis. Check out the long list of authors who are involved at http://writersonrafts.com – and don’t miss the chance to attend the Ultimate Girly High Tea, with some brilliant Australian writers including Anita Heiss, Kate Morton and Mia Freedman.

Interview online at Flourish magazine

During the week I had the great pleasure of chatting to Claire Williams from Flourish magazine about Beneath the Shadows. You can read the interview online at www.flourishmagazine.com.au.

Blogging all week on Random House Australia site

I’m the guest blogger all week on the Random House Australia blog site: http://randomhouseaustralia.wordpress.com/ So far I’ve written about my heroine, Grace; why the North Yorkshire moors was the perfect setting for a novel; and about losing the plot (and why bad words aren’t necessarily a bad thing).

Authors for Queensland – AUCTION OPEN!!

A group of wonderful writers spent last week collecting donations and setting up an auction website where you can bid for signed copies, tickets to events, manuscript assessments and mentoring, or even the chance to have a character named after you in a novel. All money goes to help those affected by the Queensland floods. For full details go to: http://authorsforqueensland.wordpress.com/ On the site there’s a chance to win signed copies of Come Back to Me and my second book Beneath the Shadows, which won’t be out in bookstores until 1st February 2011. Bidding closes 11 pm on 24 January (Sydney time). Good luck with the bidding, and thank you for your support.
